Coach Curtis Williams

Co-Founder, Coach

Coach Williams is currently the head coach of the Gateway Gators girls’ varsity basketball team. In his first two seasons, with the Gator’s, he helped lead the team to the first and second rounds of the WPIAL Playoffs. During his third season, 2018, the Lady Gators won the 5A WPIAL Title. The Lady Gators advanced to the Elite 8 in the PIAA state playoffs. 

Through the AAU Circuit Coach Williams has worked with PA Hoop Stars, PA Elite, and SMAC PA before becoming a founding member of Legendz Athletics.

Previously, he was the head coach of the Quaker Valley girl’s varsity basketball team from 2004 to 2010, During his tenure, he led the Lady Quakers to multiple playoff appearances. He has a great deal of additional basketball coaching experiences including twenty years of AAU basketball, and has coached numerous camps, clinics, and exposure events . Curtis has developed 150+ players who have competed at all collegiate levels. 

Coach Rich Griffin

Co-Founder, Coach

Coach Rich Griffin comes to Legendz with over 19 years of coaching experience. Coach Griffin has coached at the youth level all the way to the collegiate level with time spent at Keystone Oaks, Carlynton, Chartiers Valley, CCAC and Point Park University. 

Through the AAU circuit Coach Griffin has worked with Court Time Sports Center, Western PA Bruins and Metro Basketball before becoming a founding member of Legendz Athletics. During that time Coach has been privileged to work with hundreds of players, coaches and colleges to help his players achieve their goal of becoming college athletes. This has included working with players through the recruiting process, improving their individual skills and at time establishing tutoring and SAT prep classes for his players. 

Outside his time on the court Coach Griffin owns several businesses including companies in healthcare, mental health, real estate, asset management, business management and the oil and gas industry.

Coach David Williams

Boys Director, Coach

David Williams is entering his fourth year as the boys Director for Legendz Athletics. During his tenure he has helped numerous players obtain scholarships at all Levels Division I, II, and III. He is also entering his first year as the Director of Basketball at All American Field House.

David spent 4 years as an assistant coach for The Gateway Gators, who finished as WPIAL 5A champs in the 2017-18 Season. The Gators also earned back-to-back section champs for 2018-19 and 2019-20 season.

Coach Williams was a Graduate Assistant for the University of Akron Women’s Basketball program. His duties included coordinating all the squad’s video needs, specializing in film break down. During his time, he helped as one of the point guard coaches and oversaw player development in the off season. Skill development and training is his specialization.

Coach Williams also had a four-year playing career at for Salem University.  He was also a co-captain and led the team in academics. Salem University was ranked in the NCAA for all divisions in Points scored per game and steals per game.

Coach has also earned his master’s degree in Sports Science and Coaching from The University of Akron and bachelor’s degree in Business Management Specializing in Accounting from Salem International University.

David has been a part of the AAU scene for 12 years now, coaching and developing boys and girls of all ages and is looking forward to helping the next era of players reach their dreams of playing at the next level!

Coach William Battles

Coach

Coach Battles possesses fifteen years of head coaching experience at both the high school and middle school levels. He is currently the assistant coach of the Gateway Gators girls’ varsity basketball team. In his first two seasons, with the Gator’s, he helped lead the team to the first and second rounds of the WPIAL Playoffs. During his third season, 2018, the Lady Gators won the 5A WPIAL Title. The Lady Gators advanced to the Elite 8 in the PIAA state playoffs.  Previously, he coached with SMAC PA for numerous years, Career Connection Charter High School.  He has coached numerous camps, clinics, and exposure events, and assisted with skill development clinics/camps for all ages girls and boys.

Coach JP McGhee

Coach Jp is going into his first season here in the Legendz program. Jp was born in the Greensburg PA area and moved to Alpharetta GA in 2009, where he attended Milton high school and played four years of varsity basketball. In those four years he averaged a double-double and was named team captain during his senior year.

Following his time at Milton; Jp committed to continuing his education and athletics at Maryville College in Tennessee. Maryville is a division three school that is a part of the USA South conference. He spent two years at this institute and during those two years he would win a conference title in his freshman year and play under Hall of Fame coach Randy Lambert. While at Maryville, Jp learned an abundant amount of basketball knowledge on how to get to and staying at the college level.

Jp is finishing his college classes online at Full Sail University where he is majoring in Sports Broadcasting. Once he’s graduated; he plans to continue his passion for the sport by working closely with professional and amateur sports teams. While finishing school he is currently living in the Atlanta GA area working in the hospitality industry at the Aloft, a Marriott hotel branch.

Coach Sam Salih

High School/College Coaching Bio 

I’ve been involved in the game of basketball for over half my life, 25+ years. I started coaching in 1996 at Vincentian Academy in Pittsburgh, Pa as a boy’s assistant. I got the opportunity to move over to the girl’s side in 1998 as the JV/ Varsity assistant coach at East Allegheny High school in East Allegheny, Pa.I helped win a WPIAL Championship in 1999. We finished the season in the PIAA Final 4. 

That Same year I got my First Head coaching position, As the Girls Basketball Coach at South Fayette High school in McDonald, Pa. In 6 seasons went 57-85 with 2 playoff appearances. From 2005-06 I was the Girls Head Basketball Coach at Vincentian Academy in Pittsburgh, Pa I went 12-12 with a playoff appearance and a section title. I then relocated to Madison, WI in fall of 2006. After spending a year at Middleton High School coaching the freshman Girls team, the chance to be a Head Coach again came my way. In 2007 I became the Head Girls Coach at Oregon High school in Oregon, WI. In 3 seasons went 38-30 and won a regional championship. It was the schools 1st regional championship in 25 years. 

From 2013-2014 I was the Girls Varsity Head Coach at Lodi High School finishing 9-14. From 2010-2013 I worked in both the girls and boys basketball programs as the sophomore coach and a varsity assistant at Madison West High school. 

Collegiately I spent 4 years at La Roche University (2014-2018) Three as an assistant women’s basketball coach and the 2017-18 season as the Interim Head Women’s Basketball Coach. I have helped lead the Lady Redhawks to a 91-43 overall record, three regular season AMCC conference titles that include an undefeated record 18-0 (2016-2017), three AMCC tournament titles and 3 straight trips to the NCAA tourney. 

I was the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Greensburg Central Catholic High School. (2018-2021) In 3 seasons I went 42-17 overall with two section titles a undefeated section title (2018) and a elite 8 appearance (2021) 

I’m currently the Head Girls Basketball Coach At Deer Lakes High School. (2021-present) My Overall HS coaching record is 182-184 in 16 seasons. 

AAU Coaching Bio: 

I’m entering my 26th year & summer as a AAU coach. Programs I’ve worked for include: Steel City, SMAC Pa elite , PA Lady Belles, PA lady Stars, Wisconsin Force & Wisconsin Swing. I currently work for Legendz Athletics as a Head Coach. 

I’ve run and worked my own basketball camps at all my high school stops, also I’ve worked many college/high school basketball camps Including Five Star Basketball camp (Pgh)
